OSHA 10 Hour Construction Program Practice Test

Vehicles transporting explosives must have tight floors and any exposed spark-producing metal covered to prevent accidental ignition and ensure safety. This requirement is crucial because explosives are highly sensitive to heat, friction, or sparks, which can lead to catastrophic incidents. By ensuring that the vehicle's interior is free from gaps or holes that could allow explosives to shift and potentially create a spark, as well as covering any metal surfaces that may produce sparks, the risk of an accidental explosion is significantly reduced.

While other preventative measures like knowing the location of the vehicle (as with GPS tracking), having firefighting equipment on hand (such as a fire extinguisher), or improving visibility (like painting vehicles in bright colors) can contribute to overall safety, they do not address the specific structural integrity and exposure concerns related to the transportation of explosives. Thus, the focus on the vehicle's physical characteristics is a primary safety requirement when handling such dangerous materials.
